How tryouts work

Three steps.

Placements take about 15–20 minutes in the water with a coach. We watch your swimmer through some strokes, then follow up within 48 hours with a placement recommendation.

01

Fill out the form and tell us about your swimmer. Takes three minutes.

02

Drop in.

Show up ready to swim — suit, cap, goggles, water bottle. We handle the rest.

03

Get placed.

We email within 48 hours with a recommended group and a link to register through MSA.

How it works

Two ways in.

In May, placements are by request — submit the form and a coach reaches out to schedule. Starting June 8, we open weekly summer sessions you can simply drop in to.

Tryout FAQ

A few quick things.

What should we bring? +

Suit, cap, goggles, towel, and a water bottle. That's it. Arrive 10 minutes early so we can introduce ourselves and get on deck on time.

Do I need an appointment, or can I just show up? +

Depends on the time of year. In May, placements are by request — submit the form and we'll schedule a time. From June 8 to July 30, we run open summer sessions you can drop in to (a heads-up via the form is appreciated but not required). Wednesday afternoons during summer stay by-appointment for flexibility.

My swimmer has never been on a team. Are tryouts the right move? +

Tryouts aren't pass/fail — they're a placement tool. We see every level, from first-time team swimmers to crossovers from other clubs. If your swimmer is brand new and you'd rather start gentler, email the coaches — we can talk through the right entry point.

What happens after the tryout? +

Within 48 hours we'll email you a recommended training group and a link to register through MSA's official member portal. From there you'll handle dues, USA Swimming registration, and the rest of onboarding through MSA proper.
